While the growing number of EVs on UK roads is a positive step toward environmental goals, the pace needs to accelerate further to meet ambitious targets, according to the SMMT. This rate is expected to accelerate, with projections indicating one new BEV registered every 50 seconds by year-end and one every 40 seconds by 2024. On average, a new battery electric car was registered every 60 seconds during the month.Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) saw an 87.9% rise, capturing a 16.0% market share. Within this category, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) registrations took a noteworthy leap, increasing by 79.1% to comprise 8.1% of the market. The EV trend is evident in these figures, with electrified vehicles accounting for a significant 35.4% of the market. Private demand, on the other hand, remained relatively stable at 60,045 units, reflecting a modest 0.3% increase. Business registrations also saw a rise of 28.7%, reaching 2,915 new vehicles. Noteworthy growth has been driven by company registrations, which saw a 61.9% increase among large fleets, totalling 80,961 units. Despite this ongoing growth, the market's year-to-date figures still lag behind the pre-pandemic levels.
